Coming to iPhone and iPad first

Calm logic puzzles.
No ads, no lives, and hints that explain the move.

Quiltwork is a small set of daily logic puzzles. The first is Buttonwork: sew one button into each row, each column and each fabric patch, and don't let any two touch. Stuck? The hint explains the next move for free. The app is free to download, and one optional purchase (about $4.99 at launch) adds thousands more puzzles.

  • Every puzzle has one answer, and you never have to guess
  • Plays offline
  • Every patch has a pattern and a letter, not just a color

Buttonwork #1

One button in each row, column & patch. Buttons never touch, not even corner to corner.

0:00

Tap a square once to mark (no button here), twice to place a button, and a third time to clear it. On a keyboard: arrow keys, then X or B.

What we don't do

A lot of puzzle apps make money by interrupting you. We'd rather charge once and leave you alone.

Three dailies, every day

Easy, medium and hard, free every day. Everyone gets the same three, even offline, so you can compare with friends.

A streak that forgives a day off

Solve 7 days in a row to earn a freeze day, and bank up to 3. Miss a day anyway? You have 48 hours to catch up. Your best streak stays on record.

Hints that teach

"Patch C only fits in row 4, so the rest of row 4 is out." You learn the move instead of paying for it.

A friends board without bots

Add friends with a short code. You see each friend's time and how many hints they used. Times the server can't verify are marked.

Easy on the eyes

Every patch has a pattern and a letter as well as a color. Dark mode, large text and VoiceOver labels too.

More games on the way

Next up: Nonograms as cross-stitch. After that, Sudoku and Killer Sudoku as quilt blocks, and binary puzzles in two-tone thread. If you've bought the unlock, they're included at no extra cost.

Free to play. Pay once for more.

Questions

What are the rules?

Place one button in each row, each column and each patch of fabric. Two buttons can never touch, not even diagonally. If you've played Star Battle, it's the one-star version. Every puzzle has exactly one solution, and you can always reach it by logic, with no guessing.

Is it on Android?

Not at first. Quiltwork comes to iPhone and iPad first, and Android follows later. Tick "Android" on the form so we know you're waiting for it.

Why one-time instead of a subscription?

A puzzle app is cheap to keep running, so a monthly fee would be hard to justify. Pay once, and every puzzle game we add later is included. The launch price should be about $4.99, but it may change before launch.

Is the daily puzzle really free?

Yes. All three dailies are free every day, with no ads and no lives. The unlock adds thousands more puzzles and the full archive.

What happens if the app shuts down?

The puzzles live on your device, so the app keeps working offline with everything you already have. Friends boards and sync would stop.

When does it launch?

No date yet. We're deciding whether to build it based on how many people sign up, so your email genuinely counts. We'll write when the beta opens.
